Hey guys! It's me again, your financial adventurer, and today I'm taking you on a wild journey through the world of exchanging rubles. Whether you're planning to buy matryoshkas in Moscow or are just curious about how to convert your money into Russian currency—I've tested all the methods and am sharing my experiences with you!
Ah, the smell of freshly printed rubles in an exchange office—a classic! Here's how you do it:
Note: Due to sanctions and restrictions, using German credit cards or ATMs in Russia doesn't work. It's therefore advisable to carry enough cash and exchange it on-site.
The regulations for bringing euros into Russia are truly an adventure in themselves! Let me tell you what I found out. Theoretically, you're allowed to bring up to €10,000 for air travel and up to €500 for land travel duty-free. Sounds good at first, right? But beware, my friends! The EU has something to say about this too.
According to EU Regulation 833/2014, bringing euro cash into Russia is actually completely prohibited. Now you're probably thinking, "What am I supposed to do then?" Don't panic! There's an exception for personal use by travelers and their families. However, the exact amount isn't clearly defined.
From my experience, I can tell you that customs officers usually only wave through amounts in the low to mid three-digit range. So think twice before arriving with a suitcase full of cash! If you bring too much, you might not only lose your money but could also end up in legal trouble.
✅ Direct ruble transfers to Russian accounts
✅ Faster than traditional bank transfers (often within minutes)
✅ Low fees & good exchange rates
1. Create a Profee account:
• Go to profee.com
• Register with your email
• Verify your identity (with passport or ID)
2. Send money:
• Select Russia as the destination country
• Enter recipient details (name, bank account, or Tinkoff card number)
• Choose the amount in euros; Profee automatically converts it to rubles
3. Confirm the transfer:
• Pay by credit card or bank transfer
• Rubles are sent directly to the recipient!
💡 Tip: Profee often has better exchange rates than Revolut and is faster. Revolut has removed the ruble from its offerings, making it useless for exchanging or transferring rubles.
Another effective way to exchange euros into rubles is by transferring the money to a Russian bank account like Raiffeisenbank Russia. Here's how you can do it step by step.
1. Deposit money into Binance using Revolut or another card:
• Open the Binance app or website.
• Go to "Wallet" and click "Deposit."
• Select the fiat currency Euro (EUR) and choose "Credit card" or "Bank transfer" as the deposit method.
• Enter your Revolut credit card or bank card details to transfer euros to your Binance account.
Note: Using a credit card incurs higher fees (up to 3-4%), while bank transfers may take 1-3 business days.
2. Convert euros into stablecoins (e.g., USDT) or Bitcoin on Binance:
• Go to "Markets" and select the USDT/EUR or BTC/EUR market.
• Buy USDT or BTC with your euro balance.
• Ensure you get the best market prices to avoid higher costs.
3. Exchange cryptocurrencies on Obama.ru:
• Register on Obama.ru and verify your identity.
• Deposit USDT or BTC into your Obama.ru account.
• Exchange the cryptocurrency for rubles.
4. Transfer rubles to Raiffeisenbank Russia:
• Select "Withdraw" on Obama.ru and enter your Raiffeisenbank details.
• The rubles will be transferred to your Russian bank account within 1-3 business days.
An interesting but not entirely risk-free method. Here's how it works step by step—from setup to successful exchange.
Pros of Telegram:
Cons of Telegram:
During my adventures in Russia, I quickly realized that with German and English, you get about as far as a snowball in hell. Imagine trying to explain at a bank that you want to exchange money, and all you get are confused looks and a "Что?" (What?).
So my tip: Learn Russian! With the course from 17-minute-languages, you can not only exchange money but also ask for directions to the nearest café where you can spend your freshly acquired rubles.
Be smart, be safe!
No matter which method you choose, always remember:
So, dear ruble hunters, armed with this knowledge, you're ready to conquer the world of Russian money. May your pockets be full and your adventures unforgettable!
